Greetings,

The official ceremony was on Thursday, September 21 2006. It took place in Turner OR (South & East 12 miles outside of Salem).

It was not a traditional style wedding, but instead was more of a historical-style gathering instead. We set up the two 'car ports' from the Mo and the Mer, and put some chairs under that for people to sit on, and we set up a gazebo thing in front of it that was decorated with fake flowers wrapped like vines all up and down and across it. There were two propane fire pits set up on either side and we timed the ceremony to be close to dusk, but still light for people that had to leave early, but so that the fire could still be going. We provided some food for the feast-style dinner afterward, and our wedding cake was a 3-tiered cheesecake with each later being a different flavour of berry. We had a sheet cake too, and we didn't even get any ourselves. About half of it was eaten by guests, and then by morning, the Horse that Done has ate the rest of it :(

The wedding was a Renaissance style wedding. We didn't require people to dress up, but we helped people to be able to dress in the style (especially immediate family), and we had members of the Iron Ring in attendance as well that were in garb! :) The wedding part wasn't really the wedding party for most weddings, because it specifically did not include family. Originally the plan was to have the crew of the Mo on one side, the Mer on another, and have a staged scene at the end with other people in garb who were Mercenaries to come up and stage a scene of trying to steal the bride away, have the Mo and Mer defend the couple, and a final battle between myself and someone still standing for the mercenaries. Instead, no one showed up from the Mo and the Mer, so we had people fill in that were in garb, and included my brother and Amanda's sister.

We stayed out at Don's place starting on Sunday of the week we got married, and stayed a couple days longer to the following Sunday. A couple friends stayed late after the wedding and/or stayed overnight. For those who were there, we ended up doing the infamous corn-run and had a 5-gallon pan filled with fresh corn on the cob that I boiled. Much fun was had by all, and we even got some tablero in (of course, why wouldn't we!!)

If you are interested in dressing up for these kinds of things, you can check out these links. They are patterns (mostly Simplicity and McCall), and are arranged by gender. This will give you an idea of the kinds of things that we wear on a weekend-ly basis all throughout the summer when we are off at SCA events :)

Here is a picture of the favors that I made. They ended up being made using 14 gauge 1/4" ID galvanized steel rings, with purple and silver shrinky-dink plastic roses with the year 2006 written onto the back, and the top was made out of the same blue suede as the captain's coat that my dad wore in the wedding.
